composting takes an  unbeleivalbe amount of material to produce a cubic yard of compost, banana peels and cucumber from the kitchen aint gonna  do it.  you need a ton of grass or weeds and an equal amount of fine wood chips to double the volume and ad complexity to the compost your making, the  finely sifted year old compost is wonderful seeding mix, does as well or better than anything the nurseries are doing with plant starts3 inch layer of wood chips on the surface of your garden produces great results in combination with compost if you can manage but I have to move the wood chips to till the compost in so it can be put at the plants roots and not just left on the surface as mulch were it is not as effective when plants need it the most, some people say No till but they still dig and disturb the ground with pitch forks and surface tiller/mulcher

Most people who want to start a garden want to start it today not in three years which is unfortunately how long it would take to turn current soil into planting soil using regular non animal product compost. The other option is to raise the animal yourself so you know you're taking care of it with love, and it is giving you something back you can use.

'Purins' are liquid plant fertilizers made from comfrey and nettle which anyone can make themselves for free. High in nitrogen, minerals, etc…

Wow I didn't know one can compost banana peels. I thought they were poisonous for the earth. How does one do that? I have a wormery which I use for everything apart from banana peels, citrus peels and onion and garlic peels those I throw away.

It wouldn't be a video with John if he hadn't done his signature thumbs up. John and Jon… My two favorite vegan youtubers. Great to see them converge!

Well…this was such an interesting video but as someone who doesn't have a garden and doesn't know how to garden but still wants to start one this was very overwhelming :/ I know I just need to start it up but I really want to do it correctly and I'm worried I'll mess it all up and waste both time and money :c I think I want to just start with some potted plants for now, I hope vegan soil won't be too pricey!

A question w/ all of this that I have is is it important for me to start now? I have finals and lots of tests coming up and just don't think I'll have time to put towards gardening (or just planting/doing that bit of work) so I wanted to put it off for another 2-3 weeks, that won't cause issues will it? I live in WI but it's already started getting very warm for some reason. I would appreciate any help :]

I had an Idea and decided to google it and I seen that others were doing it…. My idea was to blend the banana peals in water with my blender and water the garden with that to make instant fertilizer. What are your idea's on this? Have you ever done this and has it worked? My garden last year did not do so well. I am going to try again this year but with a smaller garden till I get it right!.

    hey,
ever heard of nettle-manura? you put water on nettles and let it sit for a week. after that you can use the "tea" as manura. especially for tomatoes. but you have to water it down!

I've been thinking about the poop dilemma and I then saw some program about a composter/worm farm.  I think I'm going to investigate that further.

Veganic gardening is not hard. If you put tree chips (limbs and leafs) on top of your garden you will do well. I've done this for yrs. I get good crops. Watch a video called "back to eden" just don't add the animal poop or blood.

It's vegan manure if my dogs poop in my garden, right?

(j/k, I pick the poop up just like the rest of the yard.)

John is north west of me near Napa Santa Rosa. We grow green manures like rye, clover and peas.  They add a lot of nutrients to the soil.  And we do the http://www.backtoedenfilm.com method which is vegan.
