Informative. And I love how pretty your garden is! Comment – all the (male) "experts" say 3' square at least. Your bins are not that big. And clearly they work. Brava !

Just wondering how many BROWNS you use, the video only suggested a little trash and mostly food scraps. My worm bins get nasty if there is not a lot of bedding mixed with food scraps.. CraxyAboutComposting said cardboard alone makes lousy compost, any suggestions?

I just started by compost bin, (I am really afraid of worms) BUT, once the worms are present do I picked them out OR could I just spread them around in the garden with the compost….Thank you

Is it possible to build a compost bin like this during the late fall/winter season where it does go to or below freezing occasionally (south central Illinois)?

The worms make me uneasy… don't want to come in close contact with em😖… squeamish. How do you avoid disturbing or killing them while stirring and using the compost?

Please READ the comments below so the same questions don't keep being asked of me about the bins – thanks!

I want to do this but does it stink? Im worried my neighbors wont like it if it stinks. An earthy smell would be ok.

Is it ok to put questionable leftovers from the refrigerator in these? My family tends to insist on saving leftovers then forgets about them till the refrigerator in jam packed.

Leave it in contact with the ground so that the worms can come in!

You never know where you will get good information! I started a bin last summer, & just realized my mistake!!! I didn't add holes, it smelled awful, I mean awful. Everything was moldy inside after awhile, so I dumped it in the side yard pretty bummed and wondering why it didn't turn out as planned. The grass was so green and tall in that spot, so while it didn't work as hoped, I could see the grass still loved the mixture. I'm going to start one again. Today. Around here we have hay scraps, chicken manure, horse manure, and food scraps, I've been dying to use the resources we have here to make soil. In the winter I use pellet stove ash as fertilizer and that works good also.

What in case of heavy rain, or several rainy days in a row ? Wouldn't be too much water going into the compost ?

I tried for a year or so with the open bottom compost bin and had to get rid of it because of rats. I next time will probably use a better bin in my small garden
