Your quilt is Gorgeous! Thank you for uploading your video!
I don't guilt, but someone gave me a quilt top like this.
I have found a small local quilting club, that is willing to teach, and help me quilt it.
But since there are no straight edges on it, none of these ladies know how to finish them.
Do you have, or know of an instructional video for doing so?
I would appreciate any info you can direct me to.

Wasn't it a nightmare to iron the whole quilt top once it was finished and before you started quilting it?

I own a quilt shop and am preparing to sell as we plan to homestead ourselves.  You should have listened to your Aunt!  They are a very time consuming top to make, and the only real way to do a great job is to hand piece.  Yours hand piecing in wonderful!  Hand piecing in my very first love.

A Canadian lady named Linda Franz got me on the road several years ago.  She is amazing with her hand piecing.  She came up with Inklingo and it is a wonderful program.  Check it out if you haven't: http://www.inklingo.com/

I love hand piecing for I call it my "Tag Along" projects.  Just throw one in a recyclable container, grab and go as you leave the house.  It is great.  Especially nice when you have a doctor or dental appointment, seems they are rarely on time!

Love your site, you are so down to earth. Keep up the great work.

I picked at mine as the mood stuck..I would sew pieces while I watched the occasional movies and such..that is why it took so long. Have fun with it and keep me posted!

Hi Mrs. Volfie, I also started a grandother's flower garden quilt a couple of weeks ago, but I seriously hope that it doesn't take me five years to finish it because I don't know if I can keep up the spirit for that long. Your's turned out great! Really impressed!

I have about a zillon UFOs (well actually only about 75) and I keep starting new quilts! I always have some quilting or embroidery project to work on while watching TV. Grandmother's flower garden is one of my favorite quilt patterns. I have never made one, but it is on my to-do list. Beautiful quilt!

You should, they take a lot of work but sure are pretty. Mom has one that she and her mother made over 10 years in the 30's & 40's. Mine is handsewn like yours and has the white inbetween the flowers too. Just love your videos and have worked my way through all of them after several weeks. Thanks for sharing all your projects and your life!

One tip I'd like to share about piecing a quilt… (I just learned this before I attempted my hex quilt, and found it infinitely helpful): it helps a lot to heavily starch your fabric before cutting out and sewing your pieces. That holds all the bias edges nice and firm so they don't stretch on you and get out of whack while sewing them. Also, you can finger-crease edges and seam lines in easily.

    Sent.
I can see a honeycomb quilt being a wonderful play quilt for a baby! You could make it with many different textured patches, to give them something to touch and play with. (felt, satin, cotton, terrycloth, etc.)

I'll send you an e-mail with photo attachments. I am proud of how it turned out. But yes, it is very much a patience thing to do so much hand sewing.
Mine isn't really a GFG, though. I chose a random "postage-stamp" pattern, because I had odd amounts of each fabric.

No I did not use paper piecing..I pieced it by hand with now sewing seams drawn on..it was a patience thing for me.

This quilt of yours inspired me. I just finished a doll quilt made of hexagons. It is about the size of one of your GFG motifs. I did mine with English Paper Piecing, which is not the way it looks like you did yours? (Based on the fact that I saw no papers on the back of your quilt top.) My hexes were about 3/4 inch long per side, and I had about 91 hexes total in my little doll quilt. It was fun, but I very tiny work! Thanks for the inspiration. 😀
