Your garden is awesome! I've done the same by layering cardboard and newspapers. Worms love them both.

We have a lot of old hay. I have been reluctant to use it for thinking the seeds in it would germinate and grow grass and weeds in my garden. Was that not a problem for you?

Good to see the ant poison worked buddy…They can be a pain in the Ass…I am not a fan of them at all in the house…That pumpkin and cucumber plant really took off…The mulch really worked out…The whole garden looks great…

I' m always amazed at seeing people throw away – like in the trash – their mulch making material! Thanks for this great video. Kisses to Frankie!

Hey JC, I made your ant poison, and used it in the kitchen by kitchen window. The ants were gone in two days! The first time that I ever had a ant poison work so fast! I hate using chemicals that you buy from the store. Thanks for the info. Sharon

Nothing grows here but Ferns and Mushrooms, I live in the deep forest. I planted an elephant ear a while ago and put parrot crap at the base. I use to use bird crap soup and it did ok but nothing to write home about. Since I have just thrown the crap at the base of the plant, the rain washes a little in at a time and the worms have moved in big time and the leaf stems this year are 6ft tall and the leaves are 3ft long and 2 1/2ft wide. I hope it does this well next summer. It was planted back in 2004 and this is the first year it did so good.

Beautiful "Black Gold" you got there ! Have a small BTE garden build on sandy rocky hard-pan red-clay in some spots, on a hilltop. Now I see I've got to make it bigger (it was an experiment). It takes awhile (been 2yrs now in deep south) and I can already see a wonderful crop coming in ! Highly recommend this method. No more tilling for sure.
Btw my Mollydog is in love. She is my BF Aussie :)

Are you going to add a pantry in your cabin when you move to store all your home can goods, or will you build a separate place out side too store them. You are going to be vary busy. But knowing you you will do it right. If you do, hope you video it, we love to see it. I know your garden will be wonderful, have a good day an God Bless.

Ruth Stout was an early proponent of mulch gardening, as you probably know. Wrote several books about it. Your garden looks great! Thanks for the video; enjoyed it much.

Hey Boss i love how laid back and simple you make your place. We are doing the permaculture thing on our homestead and loving it.As im aging i know I wont be able to garden like i use to.So permaculture just makes sense to me.I love how you use whats available for mulch and not preaching you got to do the bark thing. Thanks for the video

Another great vid JC.  A buddy of mine was cleaning out a former tenant's garage and found a pile of tennis balls.  I inherited a bunch of them for the furry nephew next door.  It was like Christmas in July for the neighbor's dog.  Reminded me of Frankie and his chickamunkas, tennis balls, Frisbees…

Love your videos Boss. I have seen them all. A suggestion for a future Q-A session. I would love to hear your story because your experiences have shaped who you are and what you have become. From what I know, married , divorced, four kids, illness…A few businesses etc… Many of us are looking at your way of life and trying to figure out how to get there within our own situations. A bit of a biography on your life would be helpful and could provide some direction to some of us out here who are simply looking for a bit of direction and coaching. Of course, not looking for private info or very personal details… Just a bit of your roadmap… Thanks for your consideration!

i have two questions, 1- is there any other product i can use to kill ants ? i can't seem to find any borax in my local stores. 2 – will pine needles and pine cones work as mulch? what other materials would work as mulch? thank you. HANS.

I have a question for you, and I hope I've not missed the answer in one of your vids. Since your experience with foam insulation yielded poor results with ants, and the fiberglass insulation yielded problems with mice, what insulation do you use? I know you like that foiled bubble insulation for under floors, but not sure if that's what you'd use in the walls and ceilings?
Be great to know! We're getting ready to insulate our off-grid cabin we've built…with both mice and ants wanting to live there as well!!! Darn things!

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I've had a huge problem with ants this year. Thanks.

Awesome as always JC. I haven't done a garden in several years, but when I get back to it I am definitely going to try your deep mulch method. Better results with less work is a win win in my book. Yessah!

    This looks awesome! 🙂
I was looking into hugelkultur … an old European tradition, similar/different … tried a 'small' bit this year, but it's something that takes time. https://richsoil.com/hugelkultur/
What you're doing here looks amazing. You have a video on the initial prep? I could see myself definitely implementing this. This is what our Ancestors used to do, long ago, before so many merchants appeared wanting to sell them all these time consuming, labor intensive gadgets and such … that as you have proven, lol … don't really help at all.

Jumpin' Jehosaphat JC! You got yourself a thriving concern there. How on earth you gonna eat all that? Correct me if I'm wrong but Frankie's a meat eater? You might raise a fair pile of cash opening a farm stand up at the end of the road! Organic, non-GMO, Farm to Table etc etc., it's all the thing now. You'll have to beat 'em off with a stick! That Frankie and his chickamunga…priceless! I know his antics must keep a grin on your face and that's good company! Hugs and kisses for that fun and funny companion of yours!
