Should have used the while top wall brick or mixed the stones up so they looked more natural n weren't fallowing 2 lines ? but good idea I'm thinking of using the red brick theme myself but going to use the slanting white top bricks to give it a nice colour theme

Rocks as a cap are hideous. Can't sit your but on there to do plantings and maintenance!

    – explain to your wife how some things look better on paper.

My initial reaction was 'wow that's hideous' but as I watched to the conclusion it started to wear on me. End product looked pretty good in a unique way.

Shoulda reinforced the concrete with some steel mesh, and concrete 300mm wide, or paving slabs can be used for a base for a small garden wall,

Yeah this wasn't my idea.. The wife decided on that so I let her have her way..

I too love the wall all the way to the third level…but the little rocks on top?? That messed up the whole thing…but to each his own. A nice cap block on the top and even sitting some flowering potted plants on the cap block in a few places…but the rocks on top? Ruined it for me.

Thanks! Yeah I agree. We had this rock on hand at the time and it was her spur of the moment idea.

Looks great!! and the rocks on top I can understand her idea (cus I have lots of my own always haha) but if there is any way to fill in the gaps around the larger stones with small pebbles to conceal would have topped it off perfectly. 🙂 Wonderful look and love all the flowers!:)

I'm not sure we have a standard height/depth for this here in the states but yeah our friend from Mexico needed his income taxes done at the time so we traded expertise – his concrete work for us doing his taxes. I think it worked out well

    Dan Casey

    (August 12, 2016 - 10:14 pm)

Well, here in England the standard height of a brick is 65mm, and the depth of a mortar bed is 10mm, and you can buy ready made bags of mortar that you just have to add water to in any major DIY shop I think 🙂

    Yes.

    (August 12, 2016 - 10:14 pm)

i assume you laid the brick into the concrete while it was still wet?

    1flacoloco

    (August 12, 2016 - 10:14 pm)

Hire a curber and have him lay colored concrete and then stamp it with a brick stamp pattern.
It would be alot cheaper than this and look a heck of alot better.

Thanks! I used 80 pound bags of Sakrete concrete for the footing and 60 pound bags of Sakrete mortar mix from Home Depot..
The number of bags you will need to determine for your project.
    Hope this helps.

i agree with violett. to each his or her own, but wow..it would have looked so much better without the top rock cap. i am ready to start my own brick border. this video was helpful!
