First year ive successfully grown potatoes without some kind of skin disease. I harvested them all last sat because i prefer them smaller. i planted 20 potatoes (1 per sqft) in sets of 4 sqft in 5 diff raised beds. My soil needs some work as its pretty hard/clay-ish but even so i have no idea what i am going to do with all these potatoes! I havent weighed them but im estimating 60 lbs. I plan to store them in my consistently 62F basement so with luck they will keep long enough to consume them before they turn. As a new gardener they are pretty darn satisfying to grow … easy and big yields. One of my fave things to do since i started gardening last yr is to take my garden produce backpacking. When i prepare a meal over the fire made almost entirely from my garden, my buddies get pretty damn jealous eating their ramen or rehydrated meals 😉 Next yr i hope to take it to the next level and grow quantities of peppers … Patrick makes those Jimmy Nardellos sound amazing for cooking but i boofed this yr and didnt get them started on time. Cheers!

Hi Patrick, How are you ? I am hoping you can shed some light…Lot of my potatoe plants grew plenty of tall stems and tons of leaves and flowers but never produced any tubers at all ? Is that because it is too hot ? I have lost hope growing potatoes.

Greetings Patrick! Growing around here (Nova Scotia) was seriously impacted by a severe frost in mid June. Commercial growers were hit very hard.
Sure looks like y'all have things well in hand…..enjoyed your video!!
My question relates to using green leaves and wood chips (we had to cut down several trees so that sunlight could get to our pool). I've shredded the leaves and branches and made a wonderful mix…..do the leaves count as green material?

Looks like my soup Patrick which I make all year long. I can't eat many potatoes due to a medical condition but I do grow a small amount and recently harvested a few, in the PNW potatoes can be left in the ground all year pretty much but can become a nuisance the next, LOL. I grow mine in an 18 gallon container.

Great video Patrick. I love potatoes and grow many varieties here in the container and in the ground. In fact, running another experiment this year to see which is best ground or container grown potatoes. I have seen the Yukon gold potatoes mentioned a few times lately but I have not come across them here in the UK. would be good to see if I can get some and see how they perform here. Keep the great videos coming. Tony

Patrick? My potato patch still has bright green leaves. A couple plants flowered but they stayed bright green with no signs of going yellow. This is my first time growing potatoes in the ground, did I do something wrong? Years ago I tried growing in soil bags and I got bitter disgusting potatoes worried in Toronto.

That soup looked delicious. I love new potatoes. My Mom cooked new potatoes with snap beans in a chicken broth. She then added some cream and thickened the broth with butter and flour. After removing it from the heat, she added chopped dill. Not what you would call healthy, but it was good. I've got to start growing potatoes.
